Open House Sunday: Liberty Grand & One King West

On a very chilly Sunday afternoon in February I made my way downtown to the Liberty Grand Wedding Open House.

This restored 100,000 square foot complex, built in 1926, contains three grand ballrooms: The Centennial + The Renaissance Room, The Governors Room and The Artifacts Room.

As I stepped into The Centennial Foyer, the grandeur of 27 foot ceilings and luxurious arched floor-to-ceiling windows impress me immediately! I make my way through French doors into the first ballroom, The Centennial Room, and I feel instantly that I have transported back in time. This glorious ballroom is traditionally decorated with classical interior finishes, crystal chandeliers, giant Renaissance columns and historical 1900's furnishings. Anyone would feel like the belle of the ball in this space!

A spread of tarts, pastries, gourmet wraps, spreads, dips and delicious delights awaken my taste buds before I make my way through the magnificent foyer that leads to The Renaissance Room. This domed grand entrance is quite impressive with interior waterfalls and Italian marble floors. I am in love!

Located here, is also the main entrance to the Courtyard where outdoor ceremony's take place. How lovely would this be for a summer wedding?

I head into The Renaissance Room. I find this space to be an exact replica of The Centennial Room, but is set up with banquet rounds. Both these rooms can accommodate a maximum of 300 guests for a banquet style dinner and 700 for a reception.

The head table is elegantly designed by Liberty Grand's Resident Florist, Luc Lecierc.

Outside of The Renaissance Room and into the Renaissance Foyer, I am instantly drawn to a very warm and inviting seating area complete with luxurious fireplace.

This hysterically furnished foyer serves as a reception area to Liberty Grand's second ballroom, The Governors Room. This, the largest of the three ballrooms, can accommodate up to 800 guests for a banquet style dinner and 1500 for receptions.

The Governors Room features a grand oak staircase leading to an upper mezzanine, which overlooks both the courtyard and the ballroom.

Below the mezzanine, French doors open the main ballroom directly onto the courtyard.

I leave the magnificent Governors Room, head through it's private foyer and enter into the final ballroom of the Liberty Grand complex, The Artifacts Room. This open concept space is nothing like the others! The walls are draped in fabric, light installations hang overhead and four chic chandeliers set the tone for this most fabulous space. The Artifacts Room can accommodate a wide range of room set ups. Banquets can be set for 150-350 guests and receptions for a maximum of 800.

The Liberty Grand Complex is nothing short of magnificent with three grand ballrooms ideal for any kind of event.

From here, I make my way to the Wedding Open House at One King West located in the Dominion Bank Building at King and Yonge Street.

Built in 1914, this original Dominion Bank Building was deemed a Heritage Building in 1999 and has since been transformed into a Hotel and Residence. The old Grand Banking Hall, now serves as an event space featuring an ornate two story ceiling, large cathedral windows and a 100 foot long bar (the longest in Canada) modeled after the original teller's counter. The bank's original marble deposit tables still flank the hall's entrance.

Upon entering the Grand Banking Hall, I am awestruck by the exquisite floral designs and decor provided by Fuscia Designs. Simply magnificent!

The catering at One King West was superb! This yummy stuffed chicken topped with mushroom sauce melted in my mouth.

Ceremonies often take place in the Austin Gallery, once the executive offices of the bank. This space has a large balcony above overlooking the space and private rooms off the main Gallery. Cocktails are enjoyed on the balcony while the space is transformed into a reception area for 300, or banquet set up for 100 guests.

The Chairman's Boardroom is ideal for intimate weddings, or corporate meetings/events. This space accommodates 50 guests seated with a dance floor, or 80 guests for a reception.

Perhaps the coolest room at One King West is The Vault. This space is truly the most unique space I have ever come across. It is most often used for rehearsal dinners/breakfasts and corporate events. The vault room can hold a maximum of 30 guests seated with a historical tour of the space included. There is a bar outside of the Vault and a Deposit Room across used for buffet/desert service.

Who wouldn't want to dine in a bank vault?! One King West is the perfect venue for a couple looking for a unique, urban and modern space with tons of historical relevance.

  1. This is really an impressive post. It is important to select an event space before celebration. You can also search event space from online and know about difference in prices of space providers.
